Message from the founder
BALKAPSO Construction started with a simple goal- to train young civil engineers and provide consultancy services to people planning to build their homes or commercial spaces. In the beginning, it was a way for me to sustain myself financially, but more importantly, it made me realize the deep responsibility that comes with being an engineer. Every structure we design holds someone’s dreams, their hard-earned savings, and their future.
I still remember one project that changed my perspective forever. A homeowner who had invested everything into building their family’s dream house. Within months, cracks began spreading through the walls, a painful reminder of poor construction practices. And we stepped in and assessed the structure, identified the faults, and worked on strengthening it. But more than the repair, what stayed with me from that project was the relief on their face when they realized that their home could be saved. That day, I understood that engineering isn’t just about fixing buildings, it wasn’t just about repairing concrete and steel- it was about restoring his faith in the very profession I had dedicated my life to. That day, I knew BALKAPSO had to be more than a business. It had to be a mission, a mission to design safer homes, strengthen weak structures, to preserve cultural and heritage structure through retrofitting, and ensure that engineering truly serves people. That moment solidified my belief that our work goes beyond blueprints and calculations “it impacts lives”.
As we were growing, a critical gap was noticed in retrofitting and waterproofing services in Sikkim. Given that we are in Seismic Zone IV (IS 1893:2016), earthquakes are not a distant threat but a constant reality. And since, no specialized teams were addressing this. That’s when BALKAPSO stepped up- not just to build and design, but to protect and not just as a business, but as a responsibility.
This drive for safer construction led me to pursue a Ph.D. in retrofitting which allowed BALKAPSO to go beyond consultancy and enter Research & Development, focusing on innovations that make life safer and easier for people. We strongly believe that every problem has a solution if we take the time to truly understand its cause. Our approach is deeply rooted in scientific analysis, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and structural evaluations based on Indian and International Standards (IS codes).
At BALKAPSO, we don’t just build structures- we build trust – “TRUST IS WHAT WE BUILD WELL”.

FAQs
What makes BALKAPSO Construction different from other construction companies?
BALKAPSO specializes in structural strengthening, retrofitting, waterproofing, and seismic-resistant construction. Unlike typical construction companies, we focus on scientific Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), structural evaluations, and research-driven innovations to ensure long-lasting, safe, and cost-effective solutions.
Do you only work on retrofitting, or do you also design new buildings?
We provide both retrofitting for existing structures and structural design for new buildings. Whether you need an earthquake-resistant home or want to modify an existing structure, we ensure durability and safety.
How do I know if my building is at risk of structural failure?
Signs that your building may be structurally weak include:
• Visible cracks in walls, beams, or slabs
• Uneven settlement or sinking foundations
• Water seepage leading to corroded reinforcements
• Vibrations or unusual noises when moving around
If you notice any of these issues, we recommend a structural assessment and NDT to determine safety risks.
How long does it take to complete a retrofitting project?
The timeline depends on the severity of the damage, building size, and chosen retrofitting method. A small residential strengthening project might take a few weeks, while complex retrofitting of a commercial or heritage structure can take several months.
